Administrative Rule Waived
655 IAC 2-2-1 (c) — Minimum age requirement (18 years) for fire certification issuance.
Explanation
The hardship created by this rule is that students who have successfully completed all course and skills requirements as part of an approved high school fire science program are not yet 18 years of age. As a result, they are ineligible to receive certification at the conclusion of training, despite full participation and competency. We are requesting that their skills and written test are valid past the 180 day period and their certifications are granted when they turn 18.
Analysis
If the variance request is denied, students who have completed all course requirements—including practical skills and written testing—will be forced to repeat certification components solely due to age restrictions beyond their control. This creates an unnecessary burden on students and instructors, and may discourage participation in future high school-based fire programs. Allowing the certification process to pause until the student reaches the age of 18—without invalidating their completed testing—maintains the integrity of the training while supporting a smooth transition into the fire service. Granting the variance would not pose a risk to public health or safety, as the certifications would only be issued once all requirements are met and the individual turns 18. It promotes fairness and acknowledges the legitimacy of state-approved high school training programs.
Skills Evaluation
This does not need to be done as it is done in Acadis per the state.

Direct the kids to this page and have them select "Create my DualEnroll Account" and follow those instructions.
Students must complete the Dual Enroll application and they must have their Social Security numbers. If they truly don't have a SSN then they have to send an email to erin dietrich (erin.dietrich@wayne.k12.in.us) to push their enrollment as an international student.
Dual Credit registration usually opens up mid August, at least this is when the classes are up and ready for students to select. Erin Dietrich will send out email reminders too.
